Reduce the Signs of Aging with Botox Injections

Find Botox Near Wilmington, North Carolina

When you look in the mirror, who looks back at you? Is it the young, vibrant person you feel like, or are you surprised to see someone with more fine lines and wrinkles than you expected?

One primary cause of wrinkles is repeated muscle movement, which is why we often start to develop fine lines around our eyes from smiling, our mouths from chewing, and between our eyebrows from squinting or frowning. Botox smooths wrinkles by relaxing the muscles, erasing the signs of aging to reveal youthful skin that matches how you feel inside.

Botox FAQs

Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily reduces muscle movement where it’s injected to relax and reduce the depth of wrinkles. It can be used in several areas of the face, including the horizontal lines on the forehead, glabellar lines (commonly called “11’s”), crow’s feet, and lines around the lips and chin. It can also help reduce sweating, treat migraines, and ease TMJ.

Most patients see dramatic skin-smoothing within seven days of their Botox treatment. Depending upon the depth of your wrinkles and your goals, it may take more than one treatment to reach your desired results.

Each person metabolizes Botox at a different rate, but the results usually last for three to four months.

Botox is one of many neuromodulators that use botulinum toxin A, a bacteria that inhibits nerve signals to the muscles where it’s injected.

Botox smooths wrinkles by relaxing muscles and limiting their movement, while dermal fillers work by restoring or adding volume to areas of the face. Fillers work by “filling in” wrinkles and can also be used to add volume to other areas of the face, such as the cheeks or lips.

It is possible to experience side effects from Botox if it’s injected in the wrong area, such as the dropping of a brow or eyelid, called ptosis. However, Botox is safe for use when administered by a Board Certified Dermatologist, like those at The Dermatology & Skin Surgery Center of Wilmington, who have a deep understanding of facial anatomy and can accurately and safely place Botox.
